USE: Gravitational oil separators prevent the discharge of oil, petrol, diesel oil, lubricants, and heating oil into the environment. All of these substances have a lower specific weight than water, which is the basic operating principle behind the gravitational oil separator.Gravitational oil separators are used in the process of draining water from small road surfaces. Pre-treated water is then usually fed into a waste water treatment plant.
Gravitational oil separators are designed in accordance with EN 858-1 standard.
OPERATION: Water, containing pollutants of light liquids, is fed into the oil separator. Because of their lower specific weight, oil droplets rise to the surface of the water. The pre-treated water then flows out of the oil separator via an outflow pipe. As soon as the quantity of separated light liquids inside the oil separator reaches a maximum level, it is pumped out of the oil separator through an access shaft.
INSTALLATION: The oil separator should be installed in close proximity of the polluted water source. Oil separators are usually installed underground but they can also be free-standing. Installation inside closed spaces is not recommended. Oil separators installed underground can be with or without vehicular access, depending on need and surroundings. They should be installed with easy access for maintenance and emptying. Uncontrolled discharge of oil from the oil separator should be prevented
