USE: Ekoling Bioair filters enable the cleaning of waste air which contains biologically degradable pollutants. Typical filter materials are coconut fibers, bark and wood chips of different perforations and properties which are treated with various bacterial additives.
Compact free-standing biological filters are used for the cleaning of many different types of pollutants on waste air sources such as:
- municipal waste water treatment plants
- waste landfills
- systems for the storage of waste water (storage tanks for sludge, primary settlers, pumping stations, …)
- food processing industry
- chemical industry

OPERATION: Pollutants in waste air are absorbed on to the surface of the filter media where the process of disintegration (with the help of microorganisms) sets in. For optimum growth and metabolism of microorganisms, suitable environmental conditions (moisture, pH, oxygen content, temperature, nutrients, etc.) have to be maintained. Because microorganisms respond to changes in the environment, there can be some time period before microorganisms reach their full activity. In the case of it containing dust particles, the waste air has to be pre-processed in a washer in order to remove dust particles prior to entering the moistening chamber inside the biofilter.
The cleaning efficiency of the waste air with the biofilter depends on the retention time of waste air inside the filter media. The biological filter, importantly, removes those substances which cause unpleasant odours. The process of cleaning the air in the biofilter does not produce any harmful side products because by-products from the biofilter process can be added to the compost.
